Best Dog-Friendly Cornwall Beaches to Visit
Last updated: September 2026
Planning a Cornwall holiday with your dog? The good news is that you’ll find plenty of beautiful beaches where four-legged visitors are just as welcome as the rest of the family.
From huge stretches of golden sand to sheltered coves and quieter bays, Cornwall is made for long dog walks, sandy paws and a paddle in the sea.
We’ve picked six of our favourite dog-friendly beaches in Cornwall, including several around North Cornwall and within easy reach of SeaMoor Stays holiday homes.
Beach rules can change, particularly during the summer months, so it is always worth checking the latest restrictions before you set off. Cornwall Council operates seasonal dog restrictions on a number of beaches, while others remain dog-friendly throughout the year.
Daymer Bay
Best for: calm water, long walks and relaxed family beach days
Daymer Bay is one of our favourite beaches for a dog-friendly day out in North Cornwall.
Sitting on the Camel Estuary between Rock and Polzeath, the beach has a wonderful sweep of golden sand, dunes behind it and beautiful views across the water. At low tide, the sand stretches towards Rock, making it ideal for a longer walk with your dog.
The waters here are generally more sheltered than the Atlantic-facing beaches nearby, making Daymer particularly popular with families.
If you fancy extending your walk, head up Brea Hill for fantastic views or wander through the dunes towards St Enodoc Church.
Dog-friendly: Dogs are welcomed at Daymer Bay throughout the year.
SeaMoor tip: Combine a morning at Daymer with lunch in Rock or a walk along the coast towards Polzeath.
Mawgan Porth
Best for: big sandy walks, rock pools and energetic dogs
If you’ve been wondering “Is Mawgan Porth Beach dog friendly?”, the answer is yes.
Mawgan Porth is a lovely sandy cove between Newquay and Padstow, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and open countryside. It has plenty of space for a good beach walk, particularly when the tide is out, and dogs are welcome throughout the year.
There are rock pools to investigate, plenty of sand for a run and some beautiful coastal scenery. It’s also a popular surfing beach, so it works well for families where not everyone wants to spend the day doing the same thing.
Dog-friendly: Dogs are welcome all year.
SeaMoor tip: Check the tide before you visit. At lower tide there is considerably more sand for exploring.
Harlyn Bay
Best for: families, beach games and an easy-going day by the sea
Just a short distance from Padstow, Harlyn Bay is a wide, sheltered beach backed by dunes.
Its combination of sand, pebbles, rock pools and a small stream makes it particularly good for dogs who like plenty to investigate. It is also one of Cornwall’s more popular beaches for beginner surfers and families.
Harlyn is widely promoted as a year-round dog-friendly beach, which makes it an especially useful one to know about during the summer.
Dog-friendly: Dogs welcome all year.
SeaMoor tip: Harlyn is a great choice when some of North Cornwall’s better-known beaches are busy.
Perranporth Beach
Best for: enormous sandy walks and dogs with lots of energy
With miles of sand, Perranporth gives you plenty of room to stretch your legs.
Dogs are welcome throughout the year, although there are additional lead requirements on the main beach area during peak summer periods. Current guidance advises that during July and August dogs should be kept on leads between 10am and 5pm on the main beach area.
Outside the busiest section, the huge beach, dunes and surrounding coastline make this a brilliant place for longer walks.
There are also cafés, shops and places to eat close by, making Perranporth particularly easy for a full day out.
Dog-friendly: Dogs welcome year-round, with summer lead restrictions in part of the beach.
SeaMoor tip: For a quieter walk, visit early in the morning or later in the day.
Holywell Bay
Best for: dunes, dramatic scenery and long coastal walks
Holywell Bay is one of those beaches that instantly feels like Cornwall.
A vast sweep of golden sand is backed by huge dunes, with the distinctive Gull Rocks sitting offshore. It is popular with walkers, surfers and families, but there is enough space for dogs to enjoy it too.
Holywell Bay is dog-friendly throughout the year.
There are some wonderful walks around the surrounding headlands, so you can easily combine time on the sand with part of the South West Coast Path.
Dog-friendly: Dogs welcome all year.
SeaMoor tip: Bring proper footwear if you plan to explore the dunes and coast path as well as the beach.
Gwenver Beach
Best for: adventurous walks and a quieter Cornish beach
For something a little wilder, Gwynver Beach is well worth knowing about.
The beach lies just north of Sennen and is reached via a fairly steep path, which means it tends to feel quieter than some of Cornwall’s easier-to-access beaches.
The reward is a beautiful stretch of golden sand surrounded by dramatic cliffs and turquoise water.
Because access is more demanding, this one is best suited to reasonably active dogs and owners.
Dog-friendly: Dogs welcome throughout the year.
SeaMoor tip: Wear sensible shoes — the walk down and back up is part of the adventure.
What about Polzeath Beach?
Polzeath is one of North Cornwall’s best-known beaches, but it is not dog-friendly all day throughout the summer.
Current Cornwall Council rules prohibit dogs on Polzeath Beach between 10am and 6pm from 15 May to 30 September. Outside those hours — and outside the restriction period — dogs can enjoy the beach.
That makes early morning and evening walks a lovely option if you’re staying around Rock or Polzeath.
